Magic words....

Dave and I went to Pittsburg this weekend.
Our friends Steve and Giovanna are now Mr. & Mrs. Lein!
Congratulations.
They leave for the Dominican Republic this weekend and I have to admit I am a little bit jealous.

So in other news... we flew back 0n Sunday morning, drove straight to the Long Beach Convention Center for an auction.

And BOUGHT A FRIGGIN HOUSE!

So now we are in escrow, hopefully closing at the end of the month, on our first home. It is a 3 bedroom 1 bathroom fixer-upper in Carson, down the street from target, starbucks, wingstop, chile verde (all of which make us very happy) and about 10 minutes city streets from Dave's family. We can actually get up a whole hour later for church on Sundays and still be there early.

And get a dog.
And plant flowers that I actually get to keep
And not pay someone else's morgage
And have someplace for my parents to stay when they come to visit that doesnt mean we have to sleep on the floor

More to come... we'll keep you updated!

Thank you Jesus for your crazy and miraculous blessings!

Uncle Time

Ever since Elisha was a little squirt (he is not even 2 yet, but it was not too long ago that he was having a hard time walking and barely made any sense) we played a game called Uncle Time. Basically its when uncle DaeDae plays football and wrestling games with him and pushes him around. Today uncle time meant wrestling on the bed at UCSB after dinner at FCA camp. Its day one, 700 campers showed up. Dave coached and I wrote two papers and finished a book. This is a wonderful break from the commotion of the last month. Wrestling with my nephew. Yep. This is the life.

my happy place

My grandfather loved to garden. He actually started the community garden at his house in Red Fox Hills when we were little kids. I will never forget walking down those old wooden steps past the blackberry bushes into the green belt by Trion creek. It made him happy. Up until the week he died he was working in my mom's perrenial garden at our Redmond house. It was his happy place.

I'm named after my grandmother and I am going to name my first daughter after her (and my best friend since I was born), but I definately inhereted Pop's green thumb. There is something about getting dirt under my fingernails and wet patches on my knees that makes me feel like I was just on vacation for a week in mexico drinking margaritas and eating my weight in chips and fresh salsa.

This year I am growing tomatos, peppers, basil, and chives. And roses, and cactus, and a palm tree, and a grapefruit tree, and strawberries, and kangaroo paw, and an orchid, and a hydrangea, and some jade plants, a honeysuckle, bouganvilla, and some other kind of vine that was dying but needed a little love and my Christmas tree.

Its the one place that nobody gets to ask me to do anything for them. Its the only place where I don't have to be in charge. I just get to give them water, pull out the weeds, trim and

holy moly.. has it really been a month? So here is what has happened in the last month:

1. Katie graduated from USC! Fight on!!

2. My whole family was here and we went to disneyland (the happiest place on earth except my cell phone got stolen...which reminds me, if you can text me your number because I lost them all!)

3. We went camping with our friends in San Diego for Memorial Day weekend. It was 45 degrees the entire weekend, but we kept the fire going and cooked a lot of good food.

4. I had cheer tryouts for El Camino. Keep in mind last year I had a team of 14 go down to 6 by the end of the year... 65 girls came to tryouts. I kept 42. I have no idea what I have gotten myself into.

5. Our friend Jessica got married

6. Dave went to Reno for work (boy playtime football camp..ha ha. that is an inside joke with my husband sorry).

7. I have been planning my friend's bridal shower and took their engagement photos

8. We had our cheer banquet

9. I'm looking for a permanent teaching job since I am 4 classes away from my masters degree.

10. My cousin moved home to a trailer to help her parents work on the house and dream about dreaming..

11. I'm sitting in my house alone exhausted thinking about what I have to get ready for uniform fittings for tomorrow.... I think I am done thinking. yep. check on that one.

Here are my pedro cheerleaders... wow I am getting old.
